Recognizing the signs of potentially fatal skin emergencies and knowing when to call for a dermatology consult can save lives. These emergencies will be discussed at Society of Hospital Medicine 2018 Annual Meeting 2019 to be held in March.  The five dermatologic emergencies that physicians should know are:

  1. Stevens–Johnson syndrome
  2. Drug Rash With Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms (DRESS) Syndrome
  3. Purpura fulminans
  4. Acute Generalized Exanthematous Pustulosis (AGEP)
  5. Pyoderma gangrenosum
