A relatively modest amount of weight loss within the first year of being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes more than doubles the odds that patients will be in remission at 5 years, compared with those whose weight remains stable or who gain weight, a new prospective cohort study from the UK suggests.
The researchers noted that 10% weight loss was enough to induce remission in many cases. The findings appear online in Diabetic Medicine.
