Less than half of school age children reported getting the recommended amount of sleep on weekdays, a researcher reported at the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) annual meeting.

Among more than 50,000 children, ages 6 to 17 years, just 46.7% reported getting sufficient sleep, recommended at least 9 hours for younger kids (ages 6-12) and at least 8 hours for adolescents (12-17), according to Hoi See Tsao, MD, of Hasbro Childrens Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island.
