Is a doctor liable for a false certificate not issued by him?

No a doctor cannot be held liable for a false certificate not issued by him. In a case decided by Delhi Medical Council DMC DC F 14 2 492 2008 dated 02.12.2008 the Council observed that Dr. O.P. S in his written statement stated that the medical certificate dated 15.1.2008 and 4.2.2008 were not authentic and were fake certificates with forged signatures with fake stamp seal with fake medical registration number and were not issued by him. The complaint was disposed of with no action against the doctor.
