Aurobindo Pharma Inc recalls Mirtazapine tablets in US

Aurobindo Pharma USA Inc said it is voluntarily recalling Mirtazapine tablets, used for the treatment of major depressive disorder, in the US market. The product is being recalled due to a label error on declared strength. Bottles labelled as Mirtazapine 7.5 mg may contain 15 mg tablets, as per the companys announcement posted on the website of the United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA). The company is recalling lot number 03119002A3 of tablets to the consumer level, it added. "Taking a higher dose than expected, may increase risk of sedation, agitation, increased reflexes, tremor, sweating, dilated pupils, gastrointestinal distress, nausea, constipation and more," the announcement said. Unexpected levels of sedation in particular can contribute to falls in the elderly or motor vehicle accidents in adults, it added.

Taiho Pharmaceuticals moves US court against Natco on generic cancer drug

Taiho Pharmaceutical, a Japanese pharmaceuticals company and its group company have moved a US court against Natco Pharma, alleging that the Indian drug maker was attempting to come out with a generic version of its cancer medicine Lonsurf, before expiration of its patent. In a petition filed in the United States District Court for the District Court of Delawareon December 30, Taiho alleged that the Indian drug makers proposed generic Lonsurf (trifluridine and tipiracil) will infringe the patent and sought the court to pass an injunction order against manufacturing, importing and selling that drug in the US. Taiho Oncology, Inc. sells and distributes Lonsurf in the United States, while Taiho Pharmaceuticalis the owner of all the right, title, and interest of the patent. The Japanese company sought the court to pass an injunction order enjoining Natco from attempting to manufacture or sell Lonsurf in the US. Earlier in November, 2019, through a letter to Taiho,the Indian drug makernotified that it submitted ANDA (abbreviated new drug application) to the US FDA seeking approval to engage in commercial manufacture and sell the generic version in America prior to the expiration of the patents-in-suit, the petition said. Taiho further alleged that Natcos proposed ANDA violates the Lonsufs patents on six counts.

204 hospitals from central ministries joined AB-PMJAY

After the directions from the Union Cabinet, as many as 204 different hospitals from respective central government ministries have got empanelled with Ayushman Bharat- Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY). From a total of 53 central ministries, about 91 hospitals have come on board from the Railway Board and 31 hospitals have joined the health insurance scheme from the Coal Ministry. "We have received a good response from central government ministries. The Hospital Empanelment Status from ministry includes a total of 204 hospitals now on board with us," said Dr JL Meena, General Manager, Hospital Networking & Quality Assurance at AB-PMJAY. "By empanelling public Hospitals under ministries, the number of empanelled public hospitals with AB PM-JAY will increase and beneficiaries will be able to receive information closer to their homes. This is also helpful for universal health coverage with quality healthcare service," he added.

Infant deaths at Kota hospital: Centre to send high-level team on Friday

The Centre will send a high-level team comprising experts from AIIMS, Jodhpur and health economists to a government hospital in Rajasthans Kota, where 100 infants died in December, to assess the infrastructural gaps and measures to be taken to prevent further deaths. The health economists will look into the gaps in the infrastructure of the JK Lon hospital to ascertain how much funds will be required for strengthening it. "The high-level team being despatched by @MoHFW_INDIA incl experts from AIIMS Jodhpur, Health Finance & Regional Director, Health Services Jaipur. It will reach #Kota tomorrow. In my letter too to @ashokgehlot51 ji, Ive offered all possible assistance to prevent any further deaths (sic)," Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said in a tweet on Thursday. The team of experts will carry out a gap analysis, along with state government officials, in terms of clinical protocols, service delivery, manpower availability and equipment for maternal, newborn and paediatric care services at the hospital. "They will develop a joint action plan, based on gap analysis, for providing required technical and financial support to Kota Medical College through National Health Mission and state Medical Education Department. "The team members will visit JK Lon Hospital and Medical College, Kota along with state government officials from January 3 and submit a detailed report," a statement issued by the health ministry said.
