A randomized multi centre trial conducted on 152 hospitalized females with pelvic inflammatory disease compared the outcomes of amoxicillin clavulanic acid with a regimen comprising three antimicrobial agents aminopenicillin an aminoglycoside and metronidazole . The results demonstrated that 96 patients had complete or partial response and no failures in the amoxicillin clavulanic acid group while the figure was 90 with the triple therapy regimen. Moreover there were 5 failures in the triple therapy group. Thus combination of amoxicillin clavulanic acid seems to be a good option for treating females with pelvic inflammatory disease.
