ET Healthworld - Vaibhav Ganjapure

Expressing anguish over exorbitant pricing of even generic medicines, the Nagpur bench of Bombay high court on Wednesday asked Centre and state governments to inform on measures to be taken in this regard within two weeks. A division bench comprising Justice Ravi Deshpande and Justice Atul Chandurkar directed the respondents to file an affidavit on action they propose to take against manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers and doctors for misuse of provisions of law and depriving public of concession available to the patients in generic drugs. Union and state ministries of chemicals and fertilizers along with National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) have been made respondents in the PIL filed by lawyer Manogya Singh through counsels — M Anilkumar, Rukshar Sheikh and Akansha Wanjari. According to the petitioner, medicines which are manufactured at a very low cost are sold at very high prices due to negligence of authorities in controlling the rates. Thus, the prices remain out of bound for poor people who don’t get those in time leading to casualties in most cases.

Rajasthan SDM asks doctor to vacate his chair, he refuses, she blasts him. Internet is furious

India Today

A video of a Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) arguing with a doctor at a community health centre has surfaced on the internet and is going viral. You might be surprised to know that the heated argument took over a mere chair. The shocking incident took place in Hanumangarh, Rajasthan when Priyanka Talania, the SDM of Pilibanga, went to the districts community health centre for a surprise inspection. She directed the on-duty doctor Narendra Bishnoi to get up from his chair as she wanted to check some documents. The doctor, who was attending the patients at the OPD, politely refused to vacate the chair. He insisted that she could sit on any other chair. His refusal to vacate the chair did not go down well with the SDM and she started shouting on the doctor. The entire event was recorded on camera and the video has been shared on Twitter by Dr. Manish Kumar. "She is SDM. Went for sudden inspection of CHC. Asked duty in-charge to vacate his seat which he politely and strictly refused. And she went berserk," he wrote in the caption.

Poor infra, manpower affect Oral healthcare in Valley

Daily Excelsior-Irfan Tramboo

As the Government has failed to up-grade manpower and the infrastructure linked to the Oral health in Jammu and Kashmir, the number of unemployed dental surgeons are surging beyond numbers with oral health taking a hit. “The patient influx in oral health care has witnessed a manifold increase but human resources and infrastructure have not been developed as per the need”, an official of Health department said. He said that there has been no post creation in the speciality of oral health vis-à-vis dental surgeons for last more than 10 years and a recent proposal submitted to the department is pending with the Government. Official sources told Excelsior that the number of Dental Surgeons for a 300, 200 and 100 bedded District Hospitals, 50-100 bedded Sub District Hospital and Primary Health Center is only 2 but as per guidelines it should be 5. “The patient load and the range of Oral health services provided at these hospitals are multi-pronged and varied,” source said. The officials said that the increase in patients in OPDs at District Hospitals and Sub District Hospitals has become challenging with the limited human resource. “It is not possible for the Dental Surgeons, who are 2 at District Hospital and one at Sub District Hospital to manage both OPD and surgical and conservative procedures there by leading in devaluing of ideal oral health care services,” the officials said. With the non-availability of the required facilities, people are forced to consult quacks for dental ailments, resulting in further deterioration of oral health. “…Public Service Commission (PSC) has not advertised any post of dental surgeons for last 10 years which has created a huge gap in doctor-patient ratio, unemployment and consequent brain drain,” a doctor said. As per the numbers available with the J&K Dental Surgeons Association, the number of unemployed dental surgeons in Jammu and Kashmir has reached more than 3000.
