EU and UK regulators to visit Hyderabad to share knowledge with Indian firms on how to succeed in European markets

Pharmabiz India – A Raju

Regulatory authorities from Europe and United Kingdom (UK) are scheduled to visit Hyderabad next week to take part in an interactive awareness seminar with the Indian pharmaceutical firms and are expected to share regulatory knowledge as to how to succeed in European markets. As it is well known, unlike the US markets, the European markets are posing a tough challenge for Indian pharmaceutical exporters as they are having a completely different set of regulatory requirements to be complied with to export the Indian drug products in to the EU markets. Keeping this in view, the Pharmaceutical Export Promotion Councils of India (Pharmexcil) with the support of Department of Commerce has decided to organise a one-day seminar at Taj Krishna on March 2, 2020, wherein lead regulatory officials from United Kingdom Medicines Healthcare Products Regulatory Agencies (UK MHRA) are invited to discuss on the regulatory issues bothering the exporters. They are also expected to delve on the impact of Brexit and would give suggestions and tips for the Indian firms as to how to meet the changing regulatory requirements of European agencies with regard to plant inspections and getting new product registrations for exporting into European markets. “India has a vast market share in USA for its high quality generics and other pharmaceutical products, however, the exporters of our country are not able to capture the European markets on the same scale, because of the stringent regulatory systems adopted by the European regulatory agencies. In view of the above the Pharmexcil with the support of Department of Commerce (DoC) have decided to rope in top regulatory authorities from UK and Europe to take part in an awareness seminar in Hyderabad. We are hoping the member companies will take part in large numbers and interact with the international regulators and remove their doubts and apprehensions,” informed Uday Bhaskar, Director General of Pharmexcil.

Medical Dialogues- Garima

In a case of a brutal murder, a 78-year-old retired Army doctor has been sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering his wife and destroying evidence. The deceased womans body was found chopped into 300 pieces, and kept in separate 22 steel containers in the couples house. The doctor was accused of hitting his wifes head with a blunt object then hacking her body into six-inch pieces using a surgeons scalpel, scissor, saw and a kitchen knife and stashing the body parts in 22 small containers at his posh residence in Bhubaneswar. He had poured phenyl on the body parts to kill the stench. The court, after taking cognizance of the submissions and evidence, convicted the doctor for the murder based on circumstantial evidence as there were no eyewitnesses. The incident reportedly took place in June 2013 which had come to light after almost a fortnight following the couples daughter, who stays abroad, raised suspicion as she failed to talk to her mother over the phone. Though she insisted to talk to her mother, her father did not give her the phone, the government pleader, submitted before the bench.
