42 confirmed cases of coronavirus in India; Italy restricts almost 16 million people to stop the spread

On Sunday, coronavirus cases in India reaches to 42 as a three-year-old child in Kerala and a 63-year-old Kashmiri woman were tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Five people from Kerala including a couple and their son had returned from Italy on 29th February and their two relatives were also tested positive for the coronavirus. Amongst the 42 persons who found positive for coronavirus in India, 16 are Italian nationals who were on tour in Rajasthan.

Following are the latest updates of coronavirus outbreak in India and in the world:

A 63-year-old woman from Kashmir was tested positive for coronavirus ma king her the first confirmed case in Jammu and Kashmir. She had a travel history to Iran and was among two patients who were declared "high viral load cases" by the administration this weekend. They are on treatment at the isolation ward of the Government Medical College hospital and now in a stable condition.

On Monday morning, a 3 year old child who had recently traveled to Italy with his parents was tested positive for coronavirus. He has been kept in isolation ward at Ernakulam Medical College.

Kerala health minister KK Shailaja said the state has been already put on high alert. She said that the Kerala couple, in their 50s, and their son 24 year old did not report at the airport health desk or any other health centre when they returned from Italy. Their travel history only came to be known on March 6, when one of their relatives got fever and came to a hospital.

She further said that they had attended several functions after their return to Ranni, which is a small village in Pathanamthitta district of Kerala where they are living. Thus, due to their irresponsible behavior, two of their relatives are infected with the virus. Moreover, the couple and their son even refused to cooperate with health officials, due to which they were by force admitted to the isolation ward of the Pathanamthitta general hospital.

400 people are quarantined as they came in contact with an American tourist who tested positive for the coronavirus in Bhutan. He had travelled through the state recently.

27 people had come in contact with coronavirus 45 year old patient in Tamil Nadu and are put under observation.

258 people are discharged in Maharashtra and 15 people are kept under observation. 52 laboratories are made function for sample testing in India.

The Delhi government has decided to get DTC and cluster buses, hospitals and metro trains disinfected daily as a precautionary measure.

The Chief Minister has insisted on a ban for travel to countries that are badly affected by the virus. The government has arranged 40 doctors at the airport to screen passengers.

The government had also suspended visas and e-visas that were granted on or before 3rd March to people traveling from Italy, Iran, South Korea and Japan, due to a rise in cases of coronavirus in these countries.

The government has decided not to allow any foreign cruise ship to dock at Indian ports.

Kindergarten classes in Bengaluru are kept closed as a precautionary measure due to the increasing coronavirus cases in the neighboring states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

In the meantime, Qatar has temporarily barred travelers from 14 countries that includes India from today as a precaution measure against coronavirus.

Italys coronavirus death toll shoot up by 133 to 366 on Sunday as the number of infections has risen by a single day record of 1,492 to hit 7,375.

Early on Sunday, Italy’s government took the extraordinary step of barring much of the country’s north, limiting the movement for about 16 million in regions that assist as the country’s commercial engine. This move is to stop the spread of the coronavirus and is equivalent to sacrificing the Italian economy for short term to save it from the consequences of the virus in the long term.
