COVID-19 cases cross 5,000 in India; death count reaches 165

On Tuesday, India crossed 5,000 coronavirus cases that has doubled in the last five days. The death count from the COVID-19 has crossed 150 according to the latest reports from states.

The total count of COVID-19 cases reached at 5,325 with 568 new ones reported during the day. Cases in India has doubled since 2nd April when the count was 2,580. Maharashtra has recorded 150 new cases that is the highest single-day count for any state and the total number of infections has crossed 1,000.

Almost 25 deaths were reported on Tuesday and among them was a 14-month-old boy, which is the youngest Indian victim of the COVID-19. He died at the state-run hospital in Jamnagar, Gujarat.

Delhi recorded 576 coronavirus cases and 9 deaths, with 2 fatalities reported on Tuesday. The main concern of this situation in Delhi is that 35 patients admitted in different hospitals require ICU support. 27 patients are on oxygen, due to compromised lung function.

The Jamnagar toddler who died on Tuesday was on life support since 5th April. He was tested positive. His parents, both are laborers are tested negative for the coronavirus. Health officials are yet to find the source of the babys infection.

In Telangana, a 23-day-old infant is among 40 new coronavirus cases that were reported on Tuesday, taking the count of positive cases to 404.

Gujarat reported 3 new deaths due to coronavirus in the last 24 hours, taking the death count to 16.

On Tuesday, Maharashtra reported 12 deaths, taking the count to 64, which is nearly 40% of all deaths in the country. 6 of the 12 are from Mumbai, 3 are from Pune and one each from Nagpur, Satara and Mira-Bhayandar.

After Maharashtra, almost 150 new cases were reported. Other states reported a high number of new infections are Tamil Nadu (69), Madhya Pradesh (63), Delhi (51), Rajasthan (42), Telangana (40) and Haryana (33).

UP also reported a high number of 32 new cases, taking the state’s count to 340. Out of the new cases, 25 were related to the Tablighi Jamaat meetings, taking the total number of cases linked to the Nizamuddin events to 190.

Agra also reported 10 cases out of 6 of them had TJ links and others were contacts of old patients. Agra’s count reached 63 and overtook Gautam Budh Nagar that did not report any new case for the third consecutive day, its count remains at 58.

Rajasthan also reported 42 new coronavirus cases, taking the state’s count to 343.

Kerala, which was among the worst affected states, has reported lower count of coronavirus cases. On Tuesday, the state reported 9 fresh cases, taking the total cases count to 336. Among the 9, 4 came from abroad, 2 had attended the Nizamuddin prayer meet and 3 were infected due to direct contact, according to the officials.

The number of new coronavirus cases in the northeast increased to 33. On Tuesday, 3 more persons of them 2 were from Assam and one from Tripura who tested positive in the past 24 hours. Meghalaya and Nagaland are the only two states that have not recorded any new cases yet.

Jammu and Kashmir has recorded one more coronavirus death and 15 confirmed cases on Tuesday, taking the death count to three and confirmed cases count to 125.

Karnataka has reported 12 new cases taking the state count to 175. On a positive note, 25 patients are discharged in the state.
