Long wait for test report irks many in Delhi

NEW DELHI: On Thursday, a north Delhi resident and her two-and-a-half-year-old daughter, both Covid-positive patients, spent the entire day at the Narela care centre waiting anxiously for a report from the district surveillance officer (DSO). The report was to be the deciding factor whether they could go back to the comfort of their home or be lodged at the health facility.“The woman said she had adequate facilities for home isolation, but we didn’t get the report today. We couldn’t discharge them,” said Dr Ishrat Kafeel, the chief minister’s representative at the Narela centre, the capital’s first and one of the biggest facilities. “Such occurrences are a huge problem as testing centres have been sending positive patients to the centres directly for screening. Coronavirus treatment in India: Hetero Pharma starts supplying generic version of Remdesivir to states! Scientists all over the world have been looking for treatments for COVID-19, which has wreaked havoc globally. Amidst this, several studies have found that anti-viral drug Remdesivir could be used in the treatment of COVID-19 patients. On Wednesday, Indian generic pharmaceutical giant Hetero announced that it was all set to deliver as many as 20,000 vials of ‘Covifor’, its generic version of Remdesivir, all over the country, and on Thursday, news agency ANI reported that the supply of the drug has commenced.

US-based Rohtak doctor beats COVID-19 to feature in Hollywood flick

Nephrologist Dr Pooja Bhatia Malhotra, who hails from Rohtak, had contracted the deadly disease coronavirus while treating her patients. The doctor, who is currently in the USA, resumed work after defeating the deadly disease.She will feature in a Hollywood documentary film on COVID-19 warriors of Indian origin.Dr Pooja is among the five Indian doctors working on the frontline during the COVID-19 in the USA which has been included in a feature-length documentary movie, "A Pandemic: Away from the Motherland".The documentary is made by Sweta Rai, an Indian filmmaker in Hollywood.

On late Wednesday evening, the AAP governments health bulletin underscored a grim milestone: the total coronavirus cases in Delhi had breached the 70,000-mark. The city overtook Mumbai and became Indias new pandemic epicentre.On Tuesday, Delhi had reported 3,947 cases - the steepest single-day spike for any city or state in the country. For that one day, the city fared worse than even some of the global hotspots like Brazils Sao Paulo (2,483), Chiles Santiago (2,469) and Perus Lima (1,906). Mumbais positivity rate (confirmed cases among tests conducted) was, however, 23.2%, which is higher than Delhis 16.7 %. Delhi has seen fewer deaths (2,429) than Mumbai (4,060)
