The first two COVID-19 vaccines that have entered large-scale U.S. trials are not going to be tested in pregnant women this year, researchers told Reuters.

This has raised questions about how this susceptible population will be protected against the coronavirus. Moderna and Pfizer have separately launched clinical trials with a new and unproven gene-based technology. The companies are asking for proof of a negative pregnancy test and a commitment to using birth control from women of childbearing age enrolling in trial.
