CMAAO Coronavirus Facts and Myth Buster: Reasons for loss of smell

1063: ERS: Study of nose and throat reveals why people with COVID-19 may lose their sense of smell Researchers who have been studying tissue removed from patients’ noses during surgery believe that they may have identified the reason for loss of sense of smell among COVID-19 patients, even when they have no other symptoms. Never hurt the ego of a person

It is a well-known Vedic fact that if you hurt the ego of a person, he will never forgive you, especially, if you have insulted or implicated him in character assassination, or have cast implications about financial embezzlement or you call a woman as old or a man as impotent in public. For example, if I hurt the ego of a chowkidaar, next time if a patient comes to the hospital gate and asks where Dr. KK Aggarwal is, he only has to whisper, “Which Aggarwal? The one whose cases never survive?” Also never hurt the ego of a person who is drunk. Under the influence of alcohol, a person loses his capacity to judge persons and situations....read more

Indian pharma set to sprint

telanganatoday.com

In the battle to tame the novel coronavirus, it appears drugs have started gaining ground. Even as a vaccine seems a while away, more than a dozen versions of the two known drugs — Remdesivir (injectable) and Favipiravir (tablet) — have hit the Indian market. Scientists are claiming progress in the effectiveness of ‘repurposed’ drugs from these established brands. Medical practitioners, on the other hand, are reporting encouraging results from the use of the drugs. Repurposed drugs are new variants of the already approved drugs in the market which can be tailored for the intended new use. In the absence of a definite antiviral developed to contain the virus, doctors are guided by ‘symptomatic treatment’, for which they are choosing the repurposed drugs available and with some backing of trials done and regulatory approvals. Existing drugs like Hydroxychloroquine and Dexamethasone too are in regular use.

Pharma wrap: 72% Indian doctors see technology critical for cardiac care, Abbott’s latest study says

Money Control

The COVID-19 pandemic has hastened the speed of technology adoption of the healthcare industry, as patients have to rely heavily on digital technologies for seeking care, monitoring, booking diagnostic tests and buying medicines. A new global study called Beyond Intervention released by US drug maker Abbott, which studied barriers of cardiovascular patient care, has found out that more than 80 percent of physicians and hospital administrators view technology and data as critical to addressing challenges before, during and after treatment. In India, cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of mortality. According to the Global Burden of Disease study, the estimate of age-standardised CVD death rate of 272 per 100,000 population in India is higher than the global average of 235 per 100,000 population.
