Scarcity of labs may slow down vaccine trials

Mumbai: A scarcity of laboratories equipped to handle necessary tests and meet all safety requirements may delay trials of potential Covid-19 vaccines in India, some vaccine developers said. At least five Covid-19 vaccine candidates are in various stages of development in the country. However, only three labs in the country meet the technical requirement to conduct the serum virus neutralisation assay tests (SVN) that detects the presence of neutralising antibodies in a human body that can indicate whether an individual is protected from a virus, and only four labs are equipped with the Biosafety Level 4 (BSL IV) facility that allows scientists to work with extremely dangerous forms of pathogens, industry officials said. "There is a need for capacity enhancement of these labs so that they can handle at least 10,000 samples per day," said Sanjay Singh, CEO of Pune-based Gennova Pharma that is working on Covid-19 vaccine. ....read more

The Five Interior Powers

To be in a state of happiness, bliss and ananda is what the ultimate goal of life is. Everybody is born with certain inherent powers, which if cultivated in the right direction will lead to inner happiness. The ancient Shiva Sutra text talks about the concept of Shiva and Shakti. Shiva is silence, Shakti is power; Shiva is creativity, Shakti is creation; Shiva is love, Shakti is loving. In computer terminology, Shiva is the knowledge or the information and Shakti is the operational software. Shiva and Shakti together form the consciousness; in other words, the soul. The Shiva sutra – teaching about Shiva – describes five inherent powers of Shakti which everybody is born with. These are ”Chitta Shakti”, “Ananda Shakti”, “Gyan (Gnana) Shakti”, “Ichha Shakti” and “Kriya Shakti”. Kriya Shakti is the one which is most visible. Kriya is not same as karma. Karma is action born of cause and effect. Kriya Shakti is at the level of body and mind. ....read more

Gurugram patient, two doctors booked for violating norms

tribuneindia

The police have booked a Covid-positive woman, two doctors and as many private labs on the charge of violating the Covid guidelines and putting the lives of people at risk. The case has been registered on the complaint filed by Dr Ashima, medical officer of a primary health centre in Wazirabad. The complainant alleged that the Covid patient not only violated the home isolation guidelines, but also threatened the lives of others by roaming outside. “A 48-year-old woman of Palms Society here tested positive for the virus on August 20. The test was conducted at Metropolis Lab here on the recommendation of private doctor Naveen Chawla. The doctor neither gave her any prescription nor advised her home isolation even though she was symptomatic. Dr Chawla violated the Covid norms as he did not inform the Health Department or the district administration about her getting infected.”
