CHANDIGARH: Antibodies against the Covid-19 infection were found in eight per cent of people in the sero-prevalence survey done in Haryana last month and those living in urban areas and NCR districts were found more affected, health minister Anil Vij said on Friday. BDR Pharma To Launch COVID Drug Favipiravir At Rs 99 Per Tablet In India

New Delhi: Drug firm BDR Pharmaceuticals on Friday said it plans to launch 400 mg Favipiravir tablets, used for treating COVID-19 patients, in the country. The BDFAVI 400 mg tablets will be priced at Rs 990 for a strip of 10 tablets, BDR Pharma said in a statement. Each tablet will cost Rs 99. In August, the company launched 200 mg Favipiravir tablets. "We aim to make BDFAVI available in sufficient quantities to meet the high demand for the drug in the Indian market to help curb the current crisis... introducing a higher dosage is an attempt to ensure a smoother experience to patients and caregivers," BDR Pharma CMD Dharmesh Shah said.

Human clinical trial of Covaxin; India’s faulty drug testing strategy

The Second Phase of the human clinical trial of ‘Covaxin‘ is about to start and the chosen hospital by the Indian Council for Medical Research is busy with the preparations. Dr. E Ventaka Rao, Principal Investigator of the trial at IMS and SUM Hospital, commented, “Phase I of the trial is still not over as we proceed towards the Phase II trial shortly.” Trial scenario to date:Blood samples are collected from the volunteers who participated in receiving the vaccine in the first Phase. They are yet to ascertain the effectiveness of the vaccine concerning antibodies development. However, Dr. Rao confirmed that no immediate ‘side effects’ were seen in the first phase trial.

Doctor hit over neglect charge by patient kin

Relatives of a patient allegedly assaulted a doctor on duty in the emergency section of the state general hospital at Birpara in Alipurduar district on Thursday night. Doctors, paramedics and other staff of the hospital refused to join duties at the outpatient departments (OPDs) on Friday in protest against the assault. They also held a march and demanded a police camp on the hospital premises. Sources said a patient, who had suffered injuries in a road accident, had been brought to the emergency section around 9.45pm on Thursday. Amalesh Panda was the doctor on duty and was supposed to examine the injured. Alleging that there was delay on his part in attending to the patient, the relatives attacked Panda.

Rajasthan fixes rate of Covid-19 treatment in private hospitals

Jaipur: Health Minister Dr Raghu Sharma while providing a big relief to people of Rajasthan has fixed the rates for treatment of corona in private hospitals across the State. He said that private hospitals will have to treat COVID infected according to these rates and that action will be taken against the private hospitals who do not strictly follow these directions. Dr Sharma said that soon a system will be developed to know the vacant and situation of authorized beds in private hospitals in the State so that no hospital can send back the patients stating that all beds are full. With this system, no hospital can lie about the number of beds in the hospital.
