New Delhi: Lung cancer, the most common cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, is tough to detect at early stages, making it difficult to treat. However, the scientists may soon have a solution for it. Among the participants, 678 patients had been randomized to receive systemic dexamethasone, hydrocortisone or methylprednisolone; remaining 1025 patients received usual care or placebo. The median age was 60 years, and 29% were women. Bharat Biotech gets DCGI nod for PHASE II trials of COVAXIN

According to a report by The Indian Express, the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) has given clearance to Bharat Biotech for conducting Phase II human clinical trials of its indigenously developed Covaxin. The report informed that the subject expert committee (SEC) has recommended that the trial will be conducted on 380 participants. A letter from Joint Drugs Controller Dr S Eswara Reddy, dated September 3, has notified the company about this. Reportedly, the first phase of the Covaxin trial was done with 375 participants from across 12 sites.

Alembic Pharma arm gets tentative USFDA nod for drug to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension

New Delhi, Sep 7 (PTI) Drug firm Alembic Pharmaceuticals on Monday said its subsidiary has received tentative approval from the US health regulator for Treprostinil injection indicated for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension. The tentatively approved product is therapeutically equivalent to the reference listed drug product Remodulin injection of United Therapeutics Corp. Alembic Global Holdings SA has received tentative approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) for its abbreviated new drug application (ANDA) Treprostinil Injection in the strengths of 20 mg/20 ml (1 mg/ml), 50 mg/20 ml (2.5 mg/ml), 100 mg/20 ml (5 mg/ml), and 200 mg/20 ml (10 mg/ml), multiple-dose vials, Alembic Pharmaceuticals said in a regulatory filing.

COVID-19 reinfection: Bengaluru woman tests positive for coronavirus again in a month

A woman was infected with the coronavirus after recovering from an initial bout in July in what doctors claimed to be the first case showing that re-infection may occur within a few months. The 27-year-old woman from Bengaluru has tested positive again nearly a month after she was treated and discharged from hospital, Fortis Hospital confirmed on Sunday. This is the first confirmed case of COVID-19 reinfection in Bengaluru, the Fortis Hospital said. Dr Pratik Patil, consultant, infectious diseases, Fortis Hospital, Bannerghatta Road, said, "In the first week of July, the patient was symptomatic (fever, cough and sore throat) and was tested positive. She was admitted to the hospital and recovered well."

An Indian doctor who was jailed for more than seven months for criticising a controversial citizenship law was released on Tuesday night after a court in northern Uttar Pradesh state called his incarceration "illegal". Dr Kafeel Khan told Al Jazeera he was physically tortured while in captivity, which included him being stripped of his clothes and beaten and deprived of food for days. "It was very hard for the whole family. My 65-year-old mother was forced to visit the courts during the peak of the coronavirus pandemic," he said.
