Granules India arm gets USFDA gesture for ADHD treatment drug

New Delhi, Sep 11 (PTI) Medication firm Granules India Friday said its subsidiary has received marketing approval from the US health regulator for Dexmethylphenidate HCl extended-release capsules, used for the treatment of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The approved product is bioequivalent to the reference listed drug Focalin XR of Novartis AG. In a BSE filing, Granules said its US subsidiary has received marketing approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) for Dexmethylphenidate HCl extended-release capsules. The company said the recently approved drug will be manufactured at the Granules” manufacturing facility in Chantilly, Virginia.

PNB Vesper to conduct Phase-II human trial of a new COVID-19 drug

Pharmaceutical drug research company PNB Vesper Life Science has received approval from the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) to conduct the Phase 2b clinical trial of its candidate drug PNB-001 (GPP-Baladol), a novel chemical entity that was being researched to treat small cell lung cancer, for treating COVID-19 patients. The trials on 40 COVID-19 positive patients at BMJ Medical College, Pune will be completed in 60 days. These are moderate cases of COVID-19 and patients are on the oxygen support. The effect of PNB 001 will be compared with Dexamethasone, a popular steroid with anti-inflammatory properties now used in COVID-19 treatment. A larger study of approximately 350 COVID-19 patients will be enrolled across the country in six medical Colleges in the Phase 3 clinical trials, after reviewing the phase 2 clinical trial results and further regulatory permissions, said PN Balaram, CEO of PNB Vesper.

US hospitals turn down remdesivir, limit use to sickest coronavirus patients

US hospitals have turned down about a third of their allocated supplies of the Covid-19 drug remdesivir since July as need for the costly antiviral wanes, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) confirmed on Friday. Some hospitals said they are still buying the Gilead Sciences GILD.O medicine to build inventory in case the pandemic accelerates over the winter. But they said current supplies are adequate, in part because they are limiting use to severely ill patients. The Food and Drug Administration has allowed more liberal remdesivir use, but 6 out of 8 major hospital systems contacted by Reuters said they were not using it for moderate cases.

Civil Hospital gets contactless sink for visitors to wash hands

A foot-operated contactless sink for washing hands was installed at the Civil Hospital on Thursday by the philanthropy wing of Hyatt Regency, Amritsar. District Civil Surgeon Dr Navdeep Singh, who was present on the occasion, said such voluntary community welfare efforts must be appreciated to encourage more people to help the needy during the pandemic. The Civil Hospital gets maximum rush of patients during the pandemic. “We believe in communal harmony and that’s the message we want to send across people. Our community initiative Shanti Sewa was launched during the pandemic and we are on the frontline delivering groceries and other items to the vulnerable members within the community during this pandemic. Besides food, other essential commodities such as soaps, sanitisers and fresh linen were also being provided by the organisation. April 2020 was commenced by distributing more than 350 freshly cooked food packets to BPL families in the nearby areas and till date, the organisation has distributed free food ingredients, soaps, sanitisers, face masks and gloves to more than 5,000 persons,” said Kamaljit Singh, GM, Hyatt Regency.
