Scientists predict COVID-19 will become a seasonal virus, but not yet

A new review suggests that COVID-19 will likely become seasonal in countries with temperate climates, but only after herd immunity is achieved.

Until then, COVID-19 will continue to circulate across the seasons. The findings, published in Frontiers in Public Health, emphasize the importance of public health measures needed at present to control the virus.

Senior author, Dr. Hassan Zaraket, of the American University of Beirut in Lebanon, said that COVID-19 is going to stay and will continue to cause outbreaks all year around until herd immunity is achieved. People, therefore, need to learn to live with it and continue with preventive measures, including wearing masks, physical distancing, hand hygiene and avoidance of gatherings. Collaborating author Dr. Hadi Yassine, of Qatar University in Doha, stated that multiple waves of COVID-19 could be there before herd immunity is achieved… (HT – ANI, September 15, 2020)
