He suggested that for a common cold, steam inhalation and gargling were the best options, and, for those with symptoms of viral fever, a mild course of antibiotics. ....read more

Combination of antiviral drugs shows ‘no superior outcome’ for Covid treatment: Firm

hindustantimes

Glenmark Pharmaceuticals on Friday announced that a combination of antiviral drugs Umifenovir and Favipiravir did not show any superior outcome in treating coronavirus disease (Covid-19) patients hospitalised with moderate symptoms during clinical trials. “…this combination study was yet another effort on our part to examine new treatment options to combat the health crisis. These latest findings confirm that the addition of Umifenovir does not show any incremental benefit in clinical outcomes. Thus Favipiravir therapy along with supportive care remains a suitable and effective choice for mild to moderate Covid-19 infection,” said Monika Tandon, senior vice president and head, clinical development, global specialty, branded portfolio, Glenmark.

Dengue rears head in Ludhiana

tribuneindia.com

It was only three days ago that the district witnessed a decrease in Covid-19 cases and it was after 65 days that less than 100 Covid cases were reported, but now to further add to the woes of residents of the city and the Health Department, dengue has started spreading its tentacles. This year so far, 489 cases of dengue have been reported from the district while last year, 1,509 cases were reported. Nearly 20-25 cases of dengue are being reported every day. Medical practitioners have observed that since initial symptoms of both dengue and coronavirus are same, many people are avoiding visits to doctors due to the fear of Covid test and adopting initial precautionary measures at their homes only. “Since the initial symptoms of dengue and Covid are same, people are avoiding visits to doctors due to the fear of Covid test. This is the biggest mistake they are committing. Earlier, the disease was detected and more easily it was cured. There is nothing to be feared about the Covid test and it is for the well-being of a patient if it is done by a doctor,” said Dr Bajaj, a resident of the city.
