Pune: An advanced prognostic test is helping select breast cancer patients avoid chemotherapy, especially at a time when the scare of Covid-19 has confined many high-risk individuals to their homes. It helped doctors a great deal in the case of Prabhakar, in his 60s, who was diagnosed with a malignant tumour (breast cancer) at an early stage. “After surgically removing the breast lump, we did a risk assessment by using the advanced CanAssistBreast prognostic test. We found that Prabhakar was in a low-risk category and could avoid chemotherapy. We have put him on hormonal therapy and he is responding well,” said Ruby Hall Clinic’s oncosurgeon Amol Dumbre-Patil said. ....read more

TAIPEI: A Chinese drug developer is offering an experimental coronavirus vaccine to students going abroad in a strategy health experts say raises safety and ethical concerns. China National Biotech Group has two vaccine candidates out of five from Chinese developers that are in the final stages of clinical trials. They are part of a global race to develop a vaccine that, if they are successful, offers the fledgling Chinese industry the potential for prestige and worldwide sales.

New Delhi, Oct 16 (PTI) Drug firm Alembic Pharmaceuticals on Friday said it has received approval from the US health regulator for Amantadine Hydrochloride tablets, used for treatment of influenza A virus. The approved product is therapeutically equivalent to the reference listed drug product Symmetrel tablets of Endo Pharmaceuticals, Inc. In a regulatory filing, Alembic Pharmaceuticals said "it has received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) for its Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) Amantadine Hydrochloride tablets in the strength of 100 mg".

A doctor driving a Hyundai Venue and another person in the car were critically injured when he apparently lost control and rammed into a Metro pillar near the Avishikta crossing early on Thursday, police said. The vehicle overturned on impact and landed on another four-wheeler moving in the same direction, the police said. Two other people in the Venue and the occupants of the other car escaped unhurt.
