The West Bengal government has decided to hire 17,000 doctors for regular monitoring of COVID-19 patients under home isolation. They started this initiative to control the sudden deterioration of such patients.

As per the sources in the healthcare department, the decision was made as it was noticed that a huge number of patients were over seeing the initial signs of deterioration of their physical condition. An official of the healthcare department said that patients are contacting doctors only when they are very critical. The decision was taken to make sure that regular medical supervision is done for such patients. The patients will be provided free medical supervision also. Presently, the health department is monitoring these patients through tele-callers. Almost, 97,000 COVID-19 patients are under home isolation.

The sources revealed that the doctors will be trained by the Indian Medical Association and each one of them will monitor a patient regularly. At any timeif they notice any deterioration in the health of the patient, then they would immediately inform the local administration and the Health Department so that they can take appropriate action.

One more reason behind this decision is that the Health Department had also observed that a large number of patients who are under home isolation were reluctant to go to hospitals and therefore they needed regular medical supervision.

On Thursday, there were 3, 65,692 COVID-19 cases in the state and out of them, 37,094 cases are active. Up to now, 6,725 COVID-19 patients have died and 32,873 patients are recovered.
