The very purpose of life is to face sufferings

According to Hinduism, the very fact we are born means that in our last life, we did not get liberation or Moksha. It also means that some sufferings in our last birth still remained. Therefore, the purpose of this birth is to face those sufferings. When the purpose of our life is to face sufferings, then why suffer from them? This should be considered as ‘sukh’ and not ‘dukh’. As per Vedic literature, every adversity is an opportunity to learn or to do something different. The four notable principles of Buddha also talk about the same. The first is that suffering exists, second that there is a reason for every suffering and third that it is possible to neutralize the suffering by understanding the 8 paths of cessation of suffering. ....read more

How the pandemic has changed city commutes, in six charts

livemint

More and more people are stepping out on the streets as cities unlock and economic activity recovers. Yet, mobility patterns so far are yet to reach normalcy, an analysis of data across major Indian cities suggests. People are still skipping the weekday commute around which much of urban life revolved. However, the return to streets on weekends is approaching pre-pandemic levels. More people seem to be stepping out of their homes for reasons other than work. The stronger recovery on weekends coincides with a dip in the covid-19 caseload over the past month. At an all-India level, daily recorded infections have declined from about 95,000 in mid-September to 40,000-50,000 now. Amid this decline, Indians are moving around in the main metros in progressively greater numbers and seeing traffic levels and commute times creep up. However, more than public transport, private transport is showing a faster rebound.

Hot or cold, weather alone has no significant effect on Covid-19 spread

hindustantimes.com

A research led by The University of Texas at Austin is adding clarity on weather’s role in Covid-19 infection, with a new study finding that temperature and humidity do not play a significant role in coronavirus spread. This means whether it’s hot or cold outside, the transmission of Covid-19 from one person to the next depends almost entirely on human behaviour. “The effect of weather is low and other features such as mobility have more impact than the weather. In terms of relative importance, the weather is one of the last parameters,” said Dev Niyogi, a professor at UT Austin’s Jackson School of Geosciences and Cockrell School of Engineering who led the research.

Seven Different Forms Of Mild Covid-19 Identified

outlookindia.com

Scientists have shown that there are seven "forms of disease" in mild Covid-19, and that the novel coronavirus infection leaves behind significant changes in the immune system even after 10 weeks, findings which may aid in the treatment of patients, and in the development of a potent vaccine. The study, published in the journal Allergy, involving 109 recovered Covid-19 patients and 98 healthy individuals in the control group, showed that various symptoms related to Covid-19 occur in groups. In the research, scientists, including those from the Medical University of Vienna in Austria, identified seven groups of symptoms including "flu-like symptoms" with fever, chills, fatigue and cough, "common cold-like symptoms" with rhinitis, sneezing, dry throat and nasal congestion, and "joint and muscle pain".
