Festival related demand may be impacted by resurgence in Covid cases: Dun & Bradstreet

MUMBAI: Even as Indian economy has sprung back to its feet from October this year, resurgence in Covid cases may turn out to be a speed breaker, Dun & Bradstreet research said. The research said that the impact of the coronavirus shock would be much higher than that observed by global economies in 2008-8. While the baseline forecast in the IMF’s October World Economic Outlook is for world output to regain its pre-pandemic level in 2021, Dun & Bradstreet forecasts say this will not occur before 2022 The IMF’s adverse scenario assumes resurgence in the virus, a slow roll-out of vaccines and treatments, and unequal country access to the latter. ....read more

Low fitness linked to higher depression, anxiety risk: Study

People with low aerobic and muscular fitness are nearly twice as likely to experience depression, according to a study led by University College London (UCL) researchers. Low fitness levels also predicted a 60 per cent greater chance of anxiety, over a seven-year follow-up, according to the findings published in BMC Medicine. Lead author, PhD student Aaron Kandola (UCL Psychiatry) said: “Here we have provided further evidence of a relationship between physical and mental health, and that structured exercise aimed at improving different types of fitness is not only good for your physical health, but may also have mental health benefits.”

Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday said all Russian vaccines against Covid-19 were effective, adding that the country would soon register a third shot against the virus, the RIA news agency reported. Russia is rolling out its Sputnik V vaccine for domestic use despite the fact that late-stage trials have not yet finished, and on Tuesday said it was more than 90% effective, following earlier comments by vaccine developers Pfizer Inc and BioNTech, who said the same of their experimental Covid-19 vaccine.

New Delhi: A third spike in COVID-19 cases has come now in Delhi which is showing more cases than before, with factors like pollution, cold weather and festivals playing a major role in the rise of the infections, the ICMR said on Tuesday. Over the last few days, Delhi has reported a record daily spike in coronavirus cases. The national capital reported its biggest single-day jump of 7,745 cases on Sunday, taking its tally to 4,38,529. Responding to a question at a press briefing on the increasing number of cases in Delhi, Indian Council of Medical Research Director General Balram Bhargava said factors such as pollution, cold weather, festivals, wedding season, apart from travels in Delhi-NCR are leading to gatherings, which is resulting in spike in COVID-19 cases.
