12 doctors who are on COVID-19 duty in Ulhasnagar township of Thane district were thrown out in the middle of the night by the rest house management on Tuesday. According to the officials, they were staying there because the local civic corporation had failed to pay them six months’ rent. The doctors were positioned there by Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation and their monthly rent was due for a few months.

UMC public relations officer, Yuvraj Badane, when contacted said that the civic body had recently paid them three months’ rent to the charitable trust, which runs the rest house and the outstanding payments will be made soon.

He further said that it is unfortunate that the charitable trust took this course of action when these doctors are offering essential service to contain the coronavirus outbreak in Ulhasnagar. Leena Ashan, UMC Mayor said that the charitable trust should get involved with the civic body to recover its money. They shouldn’t have done this with the 12 doctors and cause them inconvenience.
