A statement released recently by UNICEF Executive Director Henrietta Fore says that vaccinating teachers is crucial to put children’s education back on track. The statement said, “UNICEF is calling for teachers to be prioritized to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, once frontline health personnel and high-risk populations are vaccinated. This will help protect teachers from the virus, allow them to teach in person, and ultimately keep schools open.”

It further stated that although the governments will take decisions about vaccine allocation, the consequences of missed or impaired education for a longer time will be inordinate, particularly for the most marginalized. The longer children continue to remain out of school, the lesser are the odds of returning, and the more difficult it is for their parents to restart their work… (UNICEF, December 15, 2020)
