No difference seen in fatality rate with new strain of coronavirus: Study

MUMBAI: Case fatality and hospitalisation rate from a new strain of coronavirus spreading rapidly in the UK and elsewhere is no different than that from other strains that do not carry this mutation, a preliminary study by Public Health England showed. “Preliminary results from the cohort study found no statistically significant difference in hospitalisation and 28-day case fatality between cases with the variant of concern (VOC) and wild-type comparator cases,” said authors of the study led by Meera Chand of Public Health England. “There was also no significant difference in the likelihood of reinfection between variant cases and the comparator group.” .... read more

Tripura man arrested for molesting pregnant woman feigning as doctor

A 35 year old Tripura man was arrested at Kailashahar in Unakoti district, 149 km from here, for allegedly molesting a pregnant woman in the garb of a doctor. Abhi Das, 35, was arrested over charges of entering a pregnant patient’s room in the garb of a doctor, carrying a stethoscope and molesting her with the excuse of medical examination, Rinki Debbarma, Kailashahar Women’s Police Station in-charge told reporters Tuesday morning. He fled the hospital after the patient and ASHA workers on the spot raised hue and cry over the issue and called for help.
