Argentina authorizes use of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine

Argentinas National Administration of Drugs, Foods and Medical Devices (ANMAT) approved the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine against COVID-19 on Wednesday.

ANMAT announced the authorization in a statement, noting that it has an acceptable benefit-risk balance, thus allowing the grant of its registration and conditional approval. It further stated that the authorization is on an emergency basis exclusively as a prescription for one year. This is the third COVID-19 vaccine authorized in Argentina, following the approval of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine on December 22, and the Russian Sputnik V vaccine on December 23.
