5 states have highest active COVID cases in India

Five states in India have contributed around 62% of the country’s active COVID-19 cases, which currently stands at 254, 254, stated the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Saturday.

Kerala, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh together have contributed 157,106 to the current tally of active cases in India. Kerala with 65,381 cases, Maharashtra with 54,045, Uttar Pradesh with 14,260, West Bengal with 11,985 and Chhattisgarh with 11,435 infections have contributed most to the country’s caseload. Among all the states and Union territories (UT), only six have active cases more than 10,000, of which Kerala and Maharashtra have more than 50,000 such cases. The number in the other four states (Karnataka being the other) is below 15,000… (HT, January 2, 2021)
