Over 4,000 adverse events reported in US after Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine administration

Around 4,400 adverse events have been reported in the US after people received the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine against COVID-19. Twenty one cases were determined to be anaphylaxis, stated a report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

As of December 23, 2020, 1,893,360 first doses of the vaccine had been administered in the US, reported CDC. Overall, 4,393 reports of adverse events had been received by the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System. Of these, 175 case reports were identified for further review as probable cases of severe allergic reaction, including anaphylaxis. Twenty-one cases were determined as anaphylaxis, which include 17 cases among persons who had a documented history of allergies or allergic reactions.
