FIR against 3 Chhattisgarh's doctors registered as child dies after surgery

An FIR has been registered against three doctors, which includes a government surgeon at Chhattisgarhs Korba city for alleged medical negligence on Tuesday. According to the officials, a five-year-old boy died after a hernia surgery. There has been no arrest made till now and police are investigating into the case.

Korbas Additional Superintendent of Police, Kirtan Rathore said that the district Chief Medical and Health Officer has been asked to create a team of senior doctors to do an investigation the case and submit a report.

According to the police complaint lodged by the boy’s father, he took his son to the district hospital on 6th January and a surgeon told him that the boy was suffering from hernia and recommended a sonography test. The surgeon later told them that the child needed an urgent surgery and decided to conduct the surgery at a private hospital, mentioning that the government hospital has inadequate facilities.

On 9th January, after the surgery being performed by the surgeon and one more doctor at the private hospital, the man inquired the surgeon about his son’s health. The doctor said that the boy has stopped breathing.

The boy’s father in his complaint mentioned that without consulting him, they shifted their child to another private hospital and the doctors over there said that the child was brought in a serious condition and later he died. He accused the three doctors of medical negligence resulting in the death of his child.

The police official said that an FIR is registered against the three doctors under Indian Penal Code Sections 304-A (causing death by negligence) and Section 34 (common intention).

The district hospital’s surgeon refused to give his comment on this matter, when contacted.
