Federal Health Officials Urge States to Give COVID Vaccine to 65+ and Those with Comorbidities

Federal health officials have urged states to vaccinate all Americans above 65 years of ageas well as those aged 16 to 64 years with documented underlying health condition, thus making them more susceptible to COVID-19.

US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Alex Azar and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Robert Redfield, MD, made the recommendation and stated that the vaccine supply at present was sufficient to meet demand for the next phase of vaccination as recommended by the CDCs Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices. Azar further stated that states that dont quickly administer vaccines will receive fewer doses in the future. However, the policy will not go into effect until late February, thus leaving the possibility that it could be reversed by the incoming Biden administration… (Medscape)
