Sanitation worker Manish Kumar was the first in India to receive vaccination against COVID-19 on Saturday, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched one of the world’s largest COVID-19 immunization campaigns.

Modi stated, “The disease separated people from their families, kept mothers away from their children, and those who died of the disease couldn’t even get a final goodbye from their families.”

Kumar was administered the vaccine at Delhi’s All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), which is one of the 3,006 vaccination centers established across the country.
