Differences in sugar levels drive breast cancer invasion: IISc study

BENGALURU: A recent study by researchers at Indian Institute of Science shows that a specific sugar called 2,6-linked sialic acid (2,6-Sial) is expressed at different levels on the surface of different breast cancer cells. “Malignant tumors are increasingly being understood and interpreted as ecosystems of heterogeneous cellular entities — a patchwork of cells that look and behave differently, and cooperate or compete with each other as the cancer spreads. Natural Covid-19 remedy-makers conduct clinical trial

New Delhi: The makers of two ayurvedic Covid-19 remedies have claimed that the treatments have been found to work better than the standard medicines in a comparative trial. "A clinical trial was conducted in India to monitor the outcome of a combination treatment for Covid. An Ayurvedic Remedy called Immunofree by Corival Life Sciences, and a Nutraceutical called Reginmune by Biogetica is found to work better in a comparative clinical trial against Standard of Care," said a statement.

Indias vaccination drive worlds fastest, 1 million get jabs in 6 days

New Delhi: India took only 6 days to administer one million Covid-19 vaccine doses as the number of beneficiaries who have received the anti-coronavirus shots inched close to 16 lakh. This count is higher than that of countries like the US and the UK, the Union Health Ministry said. The UK took 18 days whereas the US took 10 days to reach the one million mark, the ministry said. As on 24 January, till 8 am, nearly 16 lakh (15,82,201) beneficiaries have received COVID-19 vaccination. In a span of 24 hours, close to 2 lakh (1,91,609) people were vaccinated across 3,512 sessions. A total of 27,920 sessions have been conducted so far, the ministry said.

New Zealand reports 1st community case in months

New Zealand has reported its first case of community transmission in more than two months, although there was no immediate evidence that the coronavirus was spreading. Director-General of Health Ashley Bloomfield said Sunday the case was a 56-year-old woman who recently returned from Europe.
