Schizophrenia Associated with Higher Risk of COVID-19 Mortality

Individuals with schizophrenia appear to have a higher risk for severe COVID-19, suggests a new study published in JAMA Psychiatry.

Katlyn Nemani, MD, of New York University Langone Medical Center in New York, and associates noted that in comparison with COVID-19 patients without a psychiatric disorder, those with schizophrenia spectrum disorder appeared to have a more than two-fold higher risk for mortality within 45 days of a confirmed case, with an odds ratio 2.67. Individuals with other mood disorders (OR 1.14, 95% CI 0.87-1.49) or anxiety disorders (OR 0.96, 95% CI 0.65-1.41) were not found to have an increased risk of COVID-related death… (Medpage Today)
