It is reported that a woman dentist, who had received the COVID-19 vaccine on 23rd January, went into septic shock. The dentist, named Dr K Dhana Lakshmi, was treated at the government general hospital and then at private hospital in Ongole for two days. She was then shifted to Apollo Hospital in Chennai for better management and treatment.

Dr Lakshmi was doing well for a day after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, according to Prakasam district health authorities. On Sunday, she took treatment for fever as an outpatient in the government general hospital in Ongole. But, after a day, her symptoms suddenly worsened and she was admitted immediately.

Due to a significant drop in her vitals, she was then shifted to a private hospital with better infrastructure but there too, no improvement was seen. The medical team at the government general hospital then advised her to be shifted to a better facility.

P Bhaskar, Prakasam district collector said that the dentist was serving as a general duty officer at the government hospital. They are continuously monitoring her health. At this time, they cannot state what exactly triggered her sickness only based on diagnostic indicators. They have shifted her to Chennai in an advanced life-support ambulance with a team of medical personnel to manage her during the transportation.

Dr P Ratnavali, District medical and health officer, said that the dentist was suffering from some infection before receiving the vaccine. The fever that is caused by the vaccine could have aggravated her infection, resulting in septic shock.
