1 in 3 adults suffer psychological distress due to COVID-19

One in every three adults, particularly younger adults, women, and those belonging to the lower socioeconomic status, suffer psychological distress related to COVID-19, suggests a new study published in PLOS ONE.

Investigators conducted a meta-analysis of 68 studies that were carried out during the pandemic, and included 288,830 participants across 19 countries. They evaluated the risk factors associated with anxiety and depression among the general population. It was noted that for people most affected by COVID-19-related anxiety or depression, women, younger adults, those of lower socioeconomic status, those living in rural areas, and those having a high risk of COVID-19 infection had increased likelihood of experiencing psychological distress… (HT – ANI, January 28, 2021)
