WHO calls for effective, fair use of COVID-19 vaccines

Considering the scarcity of COVID-19 vaccines, the chief of the World Health Organization (WHO) urged governments to prioritize vaccination of healthcare workers and older persons, and also encouraged them to share surplusvaccine doses with other countries.

WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that more vaccines are being developed, manufactured and approved and there will be enough vaccines for everyone. However, at present, they are limited and must be used as effectively and as fairly as possible. Several lives can be saved if we use the available vaccines fairly and effectively, he added. He further stated that vaccines are giving us a new window of opportunity to control the pandemic and we should not waste this opportunity… (UN, January 29, 2021)
