Decline in new COVID-19 cases encouraging, says WHO

The World Health Organization (WHO) stated on Monday that the number of new COVID-19 infections has declined for the third straight week across the globe. However, the agency urged countries not to ease off on the efforts to control the pandemic.

According to WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, several countries are still dealing with rising numbers of cases, though the news is reassuring at the global level. He added that this suggests that it is possible to control the virus, despite new variants of the virus being in circulation. If people continue to follow the proven public health measures, it is possible to prevent infections and save precious lives… (UN, February 1, 2021)
