COVID-19 has had huge impact on cancer care, warns WHO

The COVID-19 pandemic has had an extensive impact on the diagnosis and treatment of cancer across the globe, stated the World Health Organization (WHO).

Over a year since the outbreak of COVID-19, the pandemic has seriously impacted cancer care, with 50% of governments’ cancer services interrupted due to it, stated Dr André Ilbawi, from WHO’s Department of Noncommunicable Diseases. He added that diagnostic delays are common and interruptions in treatment or relinquishment have increased to a significant level. This is going to affect the number of cancer deaths in the years to come. The agency also stated that breast cancer has now become the most common type of cancer across the world… (UN, February 2, 2021)
