AstraZeneca says vaccine 76% effective for 90 days after single dose

LONDON: The Oxford-AstraZenecas Covid-19 vaccine showed 76 per cent efficacy against symptomatic infection for three months after a single dose, with protection maintained to the second dose, the pharmaceutical company said on Wednesday. The primary analysis of the Phase 3 clinical trials, published as a preprint in The Lancet, also showed that with an inter-dose interval of 12 weeks or more, vaccine efficacy increased to 82 per cent. "These new data provide an important verification of the interim data that has helped regulators such as the MHRA in the UK and elsewhere around the world to grant the vaccine emergency use authorisation," co-author Andrew Pollard, Chief Investigator of the Oxford Vaccine Trial, said in a statement..... read more

Is coronary artery disease regression possible?

With input from Dr Monica Vasudev1342:Is coronary artery disease regression possible?1.Yes it is possible. It has been shown in studies; however, it is not easy. 2.It depends on lipid-rich plaques vs. calcified plaques. The TACT study, a chelation study, revealed that it is not possible to get rid of calcified plaque. 3.That is the origin of the term ‘hardening of the arteries’. However, lipid-rich plaque can be changed..... read more

The lips of truth shall be recognized forever

This sutra from Bible has a very deep significance in day-to-day life. The truth is ever lasting and always ends up in internal happiness and self-realization. And, in the long run, it always gives you happiness and an all-win situation. On the contrary, a lying tongue will only give you a momentary pleasure but you will end up in some difficulty later in life. Spoken words cannot come back as in the case of a released arrow from the bow. Once lost, one cannot get back their youth, or respect; similarly, spoken bad words cannot be taken back and once spoken will create negative waves in the other person’s (on whom they were spoken) mind which will persist as repressed thoughts or memory in the people’s mind forever. Such bad memories will keep on coming back in the person’s mind causing damage to the personal relationships. .... read more

AstraZeneca’s first vaccine dose cuts Covid transmission by 67 per cent: Study

expresspharma.in

Even just the first of the two-dose Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine can cut coronavirus transmissions by around 67 per cent and therefore have a “substantial effect” on controlling the spread of the deadly virus, according to a new Oxford University study on Wednesday. The UK government described this as good news for the world because the impact of COVID vaccines on transmission has been a crucial unknown in the fight against the pandemic. “The data indicate that (the vaccine) may have a substantial impact on transmission by reducing the number of infected individuals in the population,” notes the report from the latest study.

Large population still vulnerable to Covid-19: ICMR’s 3rd national serosurvey

The Indian Express

Despite achieving a record recovery rate against the novel coronavirus, a large proportion of Indian population still remains vulnerable to it, the third serosurvey conducted by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has revealed. Sharing the findings of the survey at a press conference, the Union Health Ministry said the third national serosurvey has found that 21.5 per cent of population, surveyed from December 17 to January 8, showed evidence of past exposure to the coronavirus. A large population still remains vulnerable and vaccination is necessary, the ministry said.
