India has become the first country globally to have administered around 5 million COVID-19 vaccines in merely 21 days, stated the Union Health Ministry.

Close to 53 lakh individuals had received the jabs as part of the nationwide vaccination drive till Friday evening. The USA, the UK and Israel attained the 5 million vaccination mark in 24, 43 and 45 simultaneous days, respectively. Overall, 52,90,474 individuals are reported to have been vaccinated across 1,04,781 sessions, according to a provisional report of data obtained till 6 pm on Friday.

In all, 27 individuals have been hospitalized thus far, translating to 0.0005% of the total vaccine doses administered thus far… (NDTV – PTI, February 5, 2021)
