Decline in COVID-19 cases shows simple public health measures work: WHO chief

TedrosAdhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), stated that the number of COVID-19 cases has fallen for the fifth straight week across the world, emphasizing that simple public health measures do work, even if variants of the virus are circulating.

He said at a press briefing that last week recorded the lowest figures of weekly COVID-19 cases since October. He added that there has been a 50%decline this year, and what is important now is the way people respond to this trend. He cautioned, “the fire is not out, but we have reduced its size,” and added that if people stop the fight against this virus, there will be resurgence… (UN, February 15, 2021)
