COVID cases decline 16% globally in one week, says WHO

The WHO’s latest update on COVID-19 pandemic states that the number of COVID-19 infections has dropped by 16% in a week globally. However, certain regions, including Europe, are still facing the spread of virus variants.

The number of deaths related to COVID-19 has also fallen in all the regions by 10% over the same period. In all, 81,000 deaths have been reported in the last week, stated WHO in its weekly update. The death toll due to COVID-19 is now more than 2.3 million worldwide. Five of six regions have reported a two-digit percentage decline in the number of new cases. Russia has reported an 11% fall, the United States has recorded a 23% decline, while the United Kingdom has recorded a 27% drop in cases. Infections have increased only in the Eastern Mediterranean Region, by about 7%... (UN, February 17, 2021)
