1 in 5 Diabetics Hospitalized with COVID-19 Die in 28 Days

While about half of the patients with diabetes hospitalized with COVID-19 will be discharged from hospital within a month, one-fifth of the patients will have died, reports the French CORONADO study.

The study was conducted during the first wave of the pandemic and has large amount of data till now. Early findings published in May last year revealed that 10.6% of patients with type 2 diabetes and COVID-19 and 5.6% of those with type 1 diabetes and COVID-19 succumbed within 7 days of hospitalization.

The 28 day outcomes have been presented at a press conference by the Francophone Foundation for Diabetes Research (FFRD) on February 3, and have been published in Diabetologia. After 28 days, 20.6% were reported to have died and 50.2% were discharged… (Medscape)
