India's vaccines will be effective against COVID-19 variants: ICMR

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) reported that interim results of ongoing clinical trials have suggested that the indigenous COVID-19 vaccines would be effective against the virus variants identified first in the United Kingdom, South Africa and Brazil.

For the South Africa and Brazil variants, efforts were being made to isolate the variants from the samples obtained from travelers who have returned from these two countries, stated Dr Balram Bhargava, Director General of ICMR.

A third clinical trial of Covaxin BB152 is complete with two doses administered to all the 25,800 volunteers involved in the trial. The interim report will be available in a week, he said… (ET Healthworld – ANI, February 19, 2021)
