Life expectancy in US falls by a year amid COVID-19 pandemic

Life expectancy in the US reportedly came down by a year in the first half of 2020.Experts suggest that the change was driven by the growing COVID-19 pandemic.

Life expectancy for the entire population declined to 77.8 years, revealed a Centers for Disease Control report. Dr Robert Anderson, the CDCs Chief of Mortality Statistics, stated that this represented a huge drop. Black men have experienced the greatest decline, with life expectancy coming down by three years from January to June 2020. Hispanic men experienced a decline in life expectancy of 2.4 years during the same period. Hispanic women experienced a lower decline, of 1.1 years… (BBC, February 18, 2021)
