Most Severe COVID Linked with Four Cardiometabolic Conditions

A new study has shown that the majority of hospitalizations due to COVID-19 in the United States can be attributed to four preexisting cardiometabolic conditions.

Out of 906,849 COVID-19 hospitalizations seen among US adults as of November 2020, obesity accounted for 30% of them, hypertension accounted for 26%, diabetes for 21%, and heart failure accounted for 12% of the hospitalizations. It is estimated that around 63.5% of the hospitalizations were associated with these cardiometabolic conditions. Investigators stated that these hospitalizations would have been preventable if these conditions were not present in the first place.
