The surge in COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra has led the rise in the nationwide case numbers over the past two weeks. However, cases are rising in several other parts of the country as well. 

Last week, 25 of the 36 states and Union territories reported a surge in COVID-19 case numbers. Among these, 13 states and the UT of Chandigarh reported over 100 more cases compared to the previous week. Across the country, the cases increased by 19% during the week of February 22-28 compared to the previous seven days. Maharashtra led the surge in cases with 54,186 new cases recorded during the period, and an increase of 48% over the previous week… (ET Healthworld – TNN, March 2, 2021)
