COVID-19 vaccine: When will children get the shot?

While the Pfizer vaccine is already cleared for use starting at age 16. Hence, some youngsters could get shots whenever they become eligible in their area, either because of a medical condition or once availability opens up. Pfizer and Moderna have completed enrollment for studies of children ages 12 and older. 

Once the results are cleared by the regulators, younger teenagers could start getting vaccinated once supply is adequate. The Moderna vaccine is currently cleared for people 18 years and older. Testing younger groups is complicated because they may require a different dose or have differing responses. While children develop serious illness or die from COVID-19 at much lower rates than adults; its unlikely that we could get community protection without immunizing children.
