WHO urges countries to closely monitor adverse effects of any vaccine in use

The World Health Organization (WHO) has urged all countries to closely monitor the adverse health effects of any vaccine that is currently in use, after several EU countries suspended the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Several European states have discontinued vaccination with the AstraZeneca drug after reports of severe side effects, including blood clots that were reportedly prompted by the vaccine. However, the European Medicines Agency has stated that at present there appears to be no indication that the adverse effects had been caused by the vaccination. A WHO spokesperson said that the agency encourages all nations to continue monitoring for any adverse events following vaccination and has asked the countries to report any serious cases of adverse events following immunization (AEFIs) to the global AEFI surveillance database… (ET Healthworld – ANI, March 12, 2021)
